Research at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The sections at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities which are mainly concerned with different research projects are called committees. The work of these committees is done in an interdisciplinary way, and they are organized according to the principles of academic self-administration. Work on the projects is done by the research assistants working for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The projects are supervised by members of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and, in part, by members of other research institutes or full-time university professors who, in their academic work, specialise in the topics covered in the committees and who have therefore been elected members of those committees.

The committees are part of the two classes of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities: The Class for History and Philosophy on the one hand and the Class for Mathematics and the Natural Sciences on the other hand. Like many other organisational principles, the division of the academy in its two classes dates from the time of its foundation. Using the navigation bar on the left side, you can take a look at the research projects done in the respective committees (listed under the heading "research") or you may read up on projects characteristic of the academy's work.

Apart from the committees, there are also Interdisciplinary Study groups linking both classes; by contrast to the committees, no research assistants work for these Interdisciplinary Study groups. The task groups are listed under the heading "research" and arranged according to subject matters.
