Representative projects and forms of publication at the Academy

Long term research in Germany dates from the 19th century, when the study of history and philology was being instituted as academic discipline and research projects were developed which exceeded the work of individual scholars. It was then that those projects were initiated within the academies whose work was, in contrast to that of most universities, focussed on research rather than on teaching.

Some of these projects of the academy in the field of humanities and cultural studies are listed below in the section "projects". The classification of the projects has not been done according to academic disciplines, but according to their means of publication in editions, encyclopaedias, indices and dictionaries.
